Jodhpur Miniature Petal Ring
22ct gold, vitreous enamel, green amethyst
Alice's passion for jewellery began in a small room in the Mehrangir Fort in Jodhpur, inspired by a jewellery box belonging to one of the maharani's of the Royal Family. The Jodphur collection is a small homage to the original source of Cicolini's inspiration.
The pattern for this piece is inspired by a piece in the HRH Maharaja of Jodhpur's private miniature collection. The pattern takes the clusters of petals from a Jodhpur miniature and trails them around the body of the ring. The red line of meenakari around the stone functions in the same way as the line of hinglu (or red pigment) around the traditional Rajasthani picchvai; it represents a sacred space (picchvai are portable shrines to the Hindu God of love, Krishna).
This piece is now sold, but similar pieces can be made to order in discussion with the client, through the Alice Cicolini bespoke process.
