22ct gold, vitreous enamel, polki diamond, pink & green sapphires, green toumalines
The Kimono collection explores the Japanese tradition of containing pattern within circular forms. The polki diamond is a vintage hand cut piece bought in Jaipur. Polki diamonds are sheets of stone, cut to preserve as much value as possible; today this process is done by machine, lessening the tactile quality of the stones. The ring in which this diamond sits is called the Monkey Diamond Ring; after a year searching for the right stone, a monkey swooped in from the rooftops and snatched the gem which sparkled on the meenakari’s work bench in the evening sun. Thankfully, the monkey’s attention must have moved to other things and the stone was, incredibly, found twinkling in the dust!
This piece is now sold, but similar pieces can be made to order in discussion with the client, through the Alice Cicolini bespoke process.
