14ct yellow gold, lacquer enamel, rose cut diamond, tsavorite, multicolour sapphires & ruby with detachable clasp
Available in stock
The Hamsa has meaning for all of the major Abrahamic religions, and is a particularly feminine form of protection, nurturing femininity, fertility, and compassion, with roots tracing back to ancient Mesopotamia, which stretched across parts of Iraq, Syria and Kuwait of today.
Described alternately as the Hand of Fatima, of Miriam and of Mary, the Hamsa’s five fingers have scriptural and symbolic relevance (the Five Pillars of Islam, Five books of the Torah and ‘Hef’ one of the names of God, and the Five Sacred Wounds of Jesus). In Hinduism, Shiva has five faces; there are five elements (earth, fire, water, air, space); and five astronomical forces of both sun and moon that together hold matter in equilibrium. Arranged with the fingers facing downwards, the Hamsa represents opening oneself up to abundance, goodness, and fertility.
Infused with the ultramarine of Yves Klein, which represented infinity and the “immaterial" for the artist, Alice’s Hamsa has a central spine of rising chakra stones. Carl Jung believed the chakras were energetic points that enabled us to draw spirit through the body and connect to Universal Energy Flow through the crown. Harmony in the body created harmony in the mind, Jung believed, and therefore with our connections to others. Alice wanted to bring the same message of joy and unity to this reimagining.
The charm is shipped with a connector which can attach freely to your own chains, or a chain with 3 or 5 enamel links can be purchased here, and with additional connectors here.
