14ct yellow gold, lacquer enamel, 1.84 carat champagne diamond, white diamond pave.
A jewel of quiet complexity, the High Memphis Leaf Ring revisits a forgotten technique through a contemporary lens. The enamel technique guilloché historically involved the use of antique engine-turning machines to engrave rhythmic, repeating patterns into metal. These machines, which are no longer in production, were capable of creating hypnotic, precise textures that shimmered beneath layers of transparent enamel. But with the technique now unable to be updated, the question remains: how might this form be revived and reimagined for the contemporary world?
The answer lies in a proprietary process. Sculptural champlevé patterns are etched into the gold, echoing the spirit of guilloché’s repetition, but with more freedom and fluidity. Once enamelled in transparent pastel tones, here in delicate pink and green, the pattern seems to shift and soften, catching the light like woven silk, or moiré fabric. At the centre, a single diamond anchors the composition. With its roots in the ornamental traditions of the past and a distinctly modern palette, this ring is an ode to craftsmanship, colour, and the art of reinvention.
